Workshops for musicians and performing artists

From 5th to 9th February 2019, a workshop on Gypsy-Balkan music will take place in the Schaulust am Güterbahnhof. Musicians from the Romanian band Mahala Rai Banda ( will spend five days in Bremen exploring the roots, structure and functions of this genre together with the participants. Then the participants can try themselves out in practice, they can make music and improvise. A rare opportunity to engage in this form of music in Germany.

Who can participate?

The workshop is aimed at anyone who has basic knowledge of making music and playing at least one instrument. It does not matter whether you are a professional musician, a music student or a hobby musician, as long as you have previous knowledge, openness and curiosity. Existing instruments should be brought along. The workshop contents are based on the previous knowledge of the participants.

Direction: Mahala Rai Banda is a Romanian band founded in 2004 by Aurel Ionita. She plays a mix of traditional folk music and club music with Balkan influences. Above all else, the band is known for mixing traditional pieces with modern sounds, creating unusual arrangements. Mahala Rai Banda tours nationally and internationally.

There are no parking spaces in front of the house. Nearest parking facilities in the multi-storey car park Ostertor / Kulturmeile (access via the Osterdeich) or directly at the Osterdeich.
